Compress a video for Discord
Choose the current documented limit, upload your own local file, and let a hard-target encode do the measured work.

The current documented limits
Discord's File Attachments FAQ was updated on 2026-08-13. It lists 20 MB for free users, 50 MB for Nitro Basic, and up to 500 MB for Nitro. Discord also says it experiments with limits, so an account may differ.
Convert maps the free preset conservatively to 20,000,000 bytes. The source and review date live with the preset instead of inside the compression engine.
Why ordinary export settings miss
A quality slider controls visual loss, not final bytes. Duration, audio bitrate, frame rate, resolution, and container overhead all contribute to the result.
Convert derives a total bitrate from the target and measured duration. It reserves room for audio and the MP4 container, then uses two video passes for a more reliable result.
When a target is too tight
Long clips may need a smaller frame to remain watchable. If even the lowest supported resolution lacks a viable bitrate, the tool stops and explains that the requested target is not practical.
Convert checks the final file on disk. A result above the ceiling is not called a success.
